Meet Scrooge among the ruins

The London Touring Players are returning to Beaulieu this festive season, bringing the timeless classic 'A Christmas Carol' to life in an open-air performances at the spectacular Beaulieu Abbey ruins and cloister. From 14th December to 24th December, audiences will be transported into the magical world of Charles Dickens' beloved story, featuring a world-class cast of West End actors.

Set against the backdrop of Beaulieu Abbey, the performances promise to be a magical experience for everyone filled with Christmas joy, music, magic, and cheer. Following the success of last year's production of 'The Snow Queen,' this immersive journey through the Abbey ruins will captivate audiences as the cast retells the heart-warming story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a wealthy but lonely and bitter businessman who prioritises his wealth over relationships and kindness. Follow his transformation over the course of one Christmas Eve as he is greeted by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.

Audience members are invited to enjoy a glass of mulled cider and a mince pie as they embark on this walk-around production through the 13th century Abbey ruins. The performances will take place daily at 2.30pm, 4pm, and 5.30pm (on the 24th December there will only be two showings at 2.30pm and 4pm), with each show accommodating an intimate audience of just 150 people. Attendees are advised to dress warmly for the winter setting and bring comfy shoes, blankets, and umbrellas for the hour-long show.

Director Abbey Wright expressed her excitement about returning to the Beaulieu Abbey ruins, stating, "It isn't Christmas without Dickens' most beloved miser, Mr. Scrooge. We are overjoyed to be able to share this story of family and love at Christmas Time. Richard Keightley, known for his work with Judi Dench and the National Theatre, will take on the role of Scrooge, promising a magical evening of live music, song, and festivity under the stars.”

After the success of previous productions at Beaulieu and other picturesque locations throughout the New Forest, the London Touring Players continue to grow from strength to strength, creating bigger and more ambitious work for audiences to enjoy.

The show features a live band performing cello, guitar, accordion and fiddle.
