Staffordshire Day

What links singing superstar Robbie Williams and TV favourite Neil Morrissey?

It’s a love of Staffordshire – and both have shared their top tips on the county as part of Staffordshire Day, an annual celebration of the county's greatness.

Visitors can follow in the footsteps of these two famous sons of Staffordshire by discovering just why they love the county so much.

Now in its second year, Staffordshire Day, which this year falls on 1 May 2017, features events, special offers and competitions.

And among ways to mark the day, organisers Enjoy Staffordshire came up with the idea of special videoed messages - including from the county’s celebrity supporters.

For the inaugural event last year Stoke-on-Trent born and bred superstar Robbie Williams spoke about his love for the city and county, while this year actor and comic Neil Morrissey has backed Staffordshire Day with a tribute to his home county. Just added is a new video from Edie Hall, the UK’s Strongest Man – and the third strongest in the world!

Staffordshire Day events lined up for 2017 include a chance to cheer on staff as they attempt to break a world record for continuous trampoline bouncing at Flip Out indoor trampoline park at Stone, or head to the World of Wedgwood, near Stoke, to help Kate Malone, from BBC2's Great Pottery Throwdown, as she decorates a giant jasper vase in the secret garden at their free-entry Fine Food & Artisan Craft Fayre.

Visit Alton Towers on 1 May and get 50% off admission prices – if you take a toy duck, or a drawing of a duck, along with you and say ‘Ay up duck’ at the entrance! And fittingly Churnet Valley Railway will stage a celebration of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier during the day, with free entry for all Staffies.

Other events include a Vintage Market at the National Memorial Arboretum (30 April – 1 May), a two day Spring Fair offering the perfect place to find a vintage or handmade bargain, and a special one day family-friendly celebration in Lichfield, which also commemorates the 300th anniversary of one of the city’s most famous sons, pioneering actor David Garrick.
