The most irritating thing men say to their partners

What's the most irritating thing men say to their partners?? According to a new survey I read, the number one annoying phrase is: "I will do anything you want me to do, you only need to ask."

Well, I recognise this. Many is the time I have been told: "I shouldn't have to ask you to empty/load the dishwasher, mow the lawn"... and so on.

This all seems fair enough but the women who answered the survey didn't mention what often happens when men's initiative is exercised.

Because if you carry out a task off your own back, you naturally do it the men's way. This is often not the way it should be done according to the other half, cue her reloading said dishwasher.

Or you have done a job before she wanted it done or bought an item when there was already some in the cupboard.

I took the bin to the end of our close the other day without being asked (admittedley a rare occurrence). Good behaviour points, I thought. But no, there was scant praise as my wife had planned to empty the bathroom bins into it first.

I know I can't win on this issue so I will shoulder the burden of being a disappointment around the house and consider adopting a single, simple domestic task as mine alone. In this, I shall be copying the late Colin Dexter, creator of Inspector Morse. At a talk I attended he said his only job now was to make sure the toilet rolls were restocked!

Will I do that right? I'm not confident.

What do you think to this? How do you split the chores in your house?
